Blond Mahogany?

A few questions.
Is mahogany bleached to make it “blond” or “white”?

How is that done?

If it does grow naturally, does anyone know a source for blond mahogany for neck blanks?

The term "Blonde" refers to wood in it's natural state with no color added. It is usually applied to maple, but can be applied here.
If you're looking for really light colored mahogany, try African Mahogany (Khaya) which is very light compared to Honduran or similar species.

That mahogany Don had at the NEL meeting in September was really light in color. I think it came from Steve Spodaryk.

Wade the mahogany I have looks like this. I wouldn't call it blonde or white.

I guess the Mahogany I have is mostly dark stuff.

Mattia, Thanks for the tip on Limba.

Joe, I did get a set of that light mahog at the meeting. That is one of the things I'm trying to match up.

Todd, I wasn't too sure about the bleaching thing. I think I'd rather go natural.

Maybe I should ask what neck woods are used that are lighter in color yet light in weight (mahogany like)?

The fresh-cut honduran I saw in Nicaragua was sometimes a very light shade, but I imagine it gets darker with exposure to air/light/whatever else.

Primavera is referred to as "White Mahogany". Same pore structure, works as well as mahogony, finishes very well...
It has more streaking than mahogany, though.
